2000 Guineas Tips: Little change in Guineas betting as Most Improved misses out
News that leading Qipco 2000 Guineas fancy Most Improved has been withdrawn from the season’s opening classic has had little impact on the betting market.
Trainer Brain Meehan withdrew the colt from its scheduled seasonal debut in the Craven Stakes last Thursday and confirmed on his website this morning Most Improved will not be among the starters in the 2000 Guineas in 12 days time.
"Most Improved continues to undergo tests to diagnose the lameness reported on Thursday morning," he said on www.brianmeehan.co.uk.
"The preliminary report from the vets has advised that he will not be ready for the Qipco 2000 Guineas on Saturday 5th May and he will be taken out of the race this morning. This is extremely disappointing for his owner and all of the team at the yard."
Most Improved finished third in last year’s Dewhirst Stakes and had been third favourite for the Newmarket classic behind market leader Camelot and Top Offer. The news has not had a dramatic effect on the 2000 Guineas betting market, Camelot has hardened slightly and is now best priced at 6/4 with Sportingbet, Bodog and William Hill.

Aidan O’Brien’s unbeaten Camelot has been all the rage for the 2000 Guineas this last week, the colt shortened after Nephrite flopped at the Curragh on Saturday and looks likely to be red hot favourite should he make it to Newmarket.
Ladbrokes had already cut Camelot to even money on Saturday night and their odds remain unchanged, while Joe Burke of Stan James said Most Improved’s withdrawal had no effect on their ante post market for the 2000 Guineas.
"Most Improved was the 6-1 third favourite with Stan James but the news of his non-participation in the first Classic of the season has had no bearing on our market for the race whatsoever," said Burke. "There has been plenty of support for Camelot over the past few days and he remains a strong 5-4 favourite having been 5-2 with Stan James only last Thursday. The whole race revolves around Camelot at the moment."
