Noel Glynn can 'See' Grand National glory

Noel Glynn can

Irish owner-trainer Noel Glynn believes Becauseicouldntsee has the credentials to win on his first attempt at the John Smith’s Grand National next week. Glynn is hoping for instant glory in the Aintree showpiece as the eight-year-old will be his first Grand National runner if all goes to plan in the next ten days.

The son of Beneficial last appeared on 29 December when finishing second to Majestic Concorde in the Paddy Power Chase over three miles at Leopardstown where he was struck into and subsequently needed an operation to remove a growth of bone. He made a good recovery after returning from the Equine Hospital in Tipperary and has spent the last seven weeks preparing at home in County Clare.

"Becauseicouldntsee is 99 per cent certain to line up in the Grand National. You never know what's going to happen in the week building up to the race - usually everything goes wrong - but he has recovered well since having surgery a couple of months ago,” he said.

Glynn has no concerns about the stamina of his relatively young contender who finished second in the National Hunt Chase over four miles at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival and thinks he will be suited by the course at Liverpool.

"He is a fantastic jumper and seems to prefer to go left-handed, so I am hopeful that he can run well at Aintree. He has a lovely racing weight and we are keeping our fingers crossed that he gets there now. Fitness won't be an issue as we wouldn't be going unless we thought he was 100 per cent,” he said.

Available at odds of around 25/1, Becauseicouldntsee is set to carry 10st 8lb and it is expected that first choice jockey Davy Russell will have recovered from injury to make the ride on 9 April.
