Manchester City v Dynamo Kiev Team News

Manchester City face a tough task in attempting to overturn Dynamo Kiev’s two-goal first leg lead when the sides meet at Eastlands to decide who continues to the last eight of the Europa League.

Roberto Mancini’s side will look to their formidable home form to bring them through after a bleak performance in the Ukraine where they lost 2-0 in freezing conditions. City have tasted just one defeat in the last sixteen games at Eastlands and the manager can expect a much better showing from his players in front of home fans.

Goals from Andriy Shevchenko and Oleg Gusev put Dynamo in the driving seat for this tie and they arrive in Manchester on a five game winning streak since returning from the winter break. Having scored 14 goals and conceded just one in the last four weeks, Yury Semin’s team will be no pushovers on Thursday night.

Mancini fielded a strong side in Kiev but may decide to rest one or two key players with a visit to Stamford Bridge to come at the weekend and a Champions League place to battle for. Pablo Zabaleto definitely misses the game as he has been allowed away on compassionate leave and Aleksandar Kolarov could again drop back to full back in a re-shaped defence. Nigel de Jong picked up a knock against Reading in the FA Cup last weekend but is expected to be fit enough to make the starting eleven.

Mario Balotelli was replaced after suffering an allergic reaction to the playing surface in the Ukraine and could be asked to add to his three Europa League goals while Carlos Tevez is saved for the showdown with Chelsea. James Milner could find a place on the bench having joined the squad after recovering from a hamstring problem but Adam Johnson will be given more time to get over his ankle knock.

Kiev must cope without leading scorer Artem Milevskiy who was injured on Sunday, but former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko will start and is expected to be joined up front by Artem Kravets.

Possible starting line ups:
MANCHESTER CITY: J.Hart; V. Kompany, M. Richards, J. Lescott, A. Kolarov; N de Jong, David Silva, Y. Touré; E. Džeko, M. Balotelli.
DYNAMO KIEV: O Shovkovskiy; G Popov, Danilo Silva, E. Khacheridi, O. Gusev; A. Yussuf, R. Eremenko, O. Vukojevic ; A Kravets, A. Shevchenko;A. Yarmolenko.
