Dynamo Kiev host Manchester City in the Europa League round of 16

Dynamo Kiev look to continue their strong European home record as they host Manchester City in the first leg of their clash in the round of 16 in this year’s Europa League.

Manchester City have never faced the Ukrainian side before and look to secure their first away win in the competition in three outings. With a disappointing 3-1 loss at Lech Poznan in the group stages followed up by draws away to Juventus and Aris Tessaloniki FC, Roberto Mancini will be hoping to send a statement of intention by ending the Ukrainian outfits 6 game unbeaten run at home in Europe.

David Silva looks set to start against Dynamo Kiev for the second time, playing at the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Stadium, where he scored a crucial away goal for Valencia in the Europa league in 08/09. The Spaniard has warned his colleagues against complacency in Kiev, where temperatures have dipped to below freezing this week.

“It’s a difficult place to go. We got a 1-1 draw so we didn’t do too badly”, he reflected.

“They’re a difficult team and at their stadium it’s very tough but we’re excited about our chances of going through.”

Mancini will be without James Milner for the clash in Ukraine, while international team-mate Shaun Wright-Phillips could come into contention after missing the last two games through injury problems.

Meanwhile, Nigel de Jong hopes to make an appearance in his first game in over a month after recovering from an ankle injury, but defender Kolo Toure remains suspended indefinitely following a failed drugs test.

National hero Andriy Schevchenko will certainly start against the Blues for the first time since 3-0 and 6-0 home wins during his time at Chelsea, where he scored in the latter. While Kiev have a strong European tradition in recent years, Manchester City and their millionaire stars represent Manchester City's first venture into Europe for some time, and their fans will have their minds set on the final and end their long run without a Trophy.
