Derby Win Sees West Brom Leap Frog Birmingham City

Roy Hodgson's West Brom triumphed in the Birmingham derby today with an impressive 3-1 scoreline against last weekend's Carling Cup winners . After a fairly dull opening forty five minutes at St Andrews the match came to life in the second half with two goals in a minute just after the restart . Mulumbu opening the scoring for West Brom following some poor Blues defending but Beusejour equalised immediately for Alex McCleish's side . West Brom continued to look the more dangerous team however and deservedly took the lead again after 58 minutes when James Morrison hit a great left foot strike from the edge of the box . Scharner completed the scoring with a well placed header and the three points take West Brom above Birmingham in the Premier League and gives the Baggies 32 points from the 29 games played so far this season .

Before today's game West Brom had struggled and were without a win in their previous six Premier League games . Since Roy Hodgson replaced Roberto Di Matteo West Brom have managed three successive draws but a run of only one win in twelve Premier League games prior to todays game means that there Premier League status is still precarious .

Up coming fixtures for the Baggies look particularly difficult with their next four home games against Arsenal , Liverpool , Chelsea and Aston Villa while they also need to travel to Sunderland and Spurs before the end of April  .

Roy Hodgson though will be a happy Baggie tonight , his team are still unbeaten since he took over  and he could yet end the season with a smile on his face after the torrid time he suffered at Liverpool .
