Torres wants to hear Chelsea offer

It is being reported that Fernando Torres is willing to leave Liverpool and wants the club to consider Chelsea’s audacious bid and allow him to join the Stamford Bridge outfit who are challenging for Premier League and Champions League honours this season.

Chelsea caused shock waves through Merseyside when it was revealed they had turned their attention to the Liverpool striker and put in a bid rumoured to be in excess of £35 million late on Thursday night. Liverpool have rejected the offer, but word is spreading that the World Cup winner would welcome the chance to compete in the Champions League this spring.

The Anfield club can only offer Europa League action for the ambitious Spaniard and prospects of Champions League football next season look well beyond reach despite the optimism that Kenny Dalglish has brought to red half of Merseyside. If the move goes ahead, Torres could go straight into the Chelsea team who play FC Copenhagen in the last sixteen of the Champions League next month.

Liverpool will be desperate to keep their man as, along with skipper Steven Gerrard, he represents Anfield’s basis to re-build a team that can challenge for a Champions League spot in the years ahead. But, Torres is 26-years-old and should be displaying his skills at the highest level in the prime of his career, the opportunity at Chelsea looks compelling and the feeling is that Torres could be wearing a blue shirt by Tuesday next week.

Roman Abramovic looks willing to spend big again to improve Chelsea’s ageing squad this winter and the club has also targeted the signing of Benfica defender David Luiz in a bid to revive their Premier League title challenge this season. If Liverpool try to be obstinate in denying Torres his move, Abramovich could just be determined enough to match the clause in the Spaniard’s contract and lay down £50 million to force the deal.
