Maradona claims to be in talks with Premier League club

Argentina football legend Diego Maradona has told South American press that he will fly to England next month to discuss a ‘firm offer’ to coach a club in the Premier League. Maradona was speaking to journalists yesterday during his trip to the resort of Punta del Este in Uruguay where he was visiting his daughter.

Argentina’s main daily newspapers, Clarin and La Nacion quoted the unemployed former national coach as saying: "In February I'm going to England to listen to a firm offer. If they convince me, I may take it up.”

Maradona has been out of work since leaving his post as coach of 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists Argentina and has previously been subject of unconfirmed reports of a move to the Premier League with Aston Villa.

"I'm not desperate (but) I know that some day I'll be the coach again of some team," he concluded to begin more speculation of a possible coaching career in England.

Clarin claim sources close to Maradona have suggested Fulham are the club in question, he was a guest at Craven Cottage when he visited London in November.

Blackburn is another club being linked with a move for Maradona; the Venkey Group, who own the club, have made no secret of their ambitions to make a marque signing at Ewood and are on the look out for a permanent manager. Sam Allerdyce was not considered the right man to take Rovers forward in the manner required by the poultry farmers and he was sacked with Steve Kean put in temporary charge until his replacement is found.
