Renewed Optimism On Anfield As King Kenny Returns

News of the return to the Liverpool hot seat for Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has been greeted with delight by the vast majority of Reds fans who were simply bored with the defensive style adopted by the ill fated Roy Hodgson .

The feelgood factor is back on Merseyside and Liverpool fans are renowned for the passion of their support and for backing their side in all competitions with their hard earned cash . News of Dalglish's appointment as interim manager until the end of the season immediately resulted in bookmakers noticing large bets on Liverpool to triumph in today's big FA Cup tie at Old Trafford and the bookies have been forced to cut the odds on a Liverpool sucess at the home of their arch enemy to 4/1 from a best price 5/1 prior to the announcement .

Dalglish however will be judged by fans and owners alike primarily on the Reds Premier League form between now and the end of the season . Liverpool currently lie in  12th position in the Premier League with 25 points after finishing in a dissappointing seventh position last season . The target for Dalglish will be to guarantee European football for the club for next season and a top six finish is imperative to achieve this . With eight points the gap between Liverpool and sixth placed Sunderland this is no easy matter for Dalglish even given that Liverpool have played two games less than some of their rivals . Odds of 6/4 for Liverpool to finish in the Top 6 seem woefully short whilst the generally available odds of 14/1 for Liverpool to finish in the Top 4 of the Premier League this season seem little short of daylight robbery .

Liverpool are 11 points behind Spurs in fourth position and have an inferior goal difference . To finish in fourth position Liverpool would need to accumulate around 45 points from their remaining 18 Premier League games . This would require an average of 2.5 points per game which is better than Premier League wining form over the last three years ! .

Expectations are always high on Merseyside but if King Kenny has to contend with totally unrealistic expectations the  odds on him becoming the next permanent Liverpool manager at 7/4 with Betfred may also be too short .
