Premier League: Arsenal v Manchester City Team News

Title pretenders Arsenal and Manchester City clash at the Emirates on Wednesday with both teams looking to hang on to the shirt tails of Premier League pace setters, Manchester United.

United’s win on Tuesday night extended their lead to three points over City, having played one game less and five more than Arsenal who played the same number of games.

As Chelsea’s title defence fades with every passing week, Arsene Wenger and Roberto Mancini are emerging as the men most likely to disrupt Sir Alex Ferguson’s league ambitions this season

But one at least one of these sides will lose valuable ground after the result is known and neither will want to consider a draw which will only favour Ferguson’s cause.

The Gunners gave City a football lesson at Eastlands in October when they inflicted a painful 3-0 defeat on Mancini’s superstars and will be hoping to repeat that performance at the Emirates.

North London is not a happy hunting ground for City and Blues fans must remember back to 1975 for their last away win against Arsenal and bookies are making the Gunners odds-on favourites to win again.

However, City were suffering a bit of a rocky spell at home in late autumn and have fared well on their travels this season with 6 wins and two draws from ten league games, with Arsenal slipping up with three home defeats, Tuesday’s game is no foregone conclusion.

Wenger has no new injury concerns ahead of the game but Thomas Vermaelen, Abou Diaby and Kieren Gibbs continue to recover from injury and are not yet ready to appear.

The City squad have travelled without David Silva and Mario Balotelli who are not fully recovered from knee injuries, meaning Adam Johnson gets another chance and Carlos Tevez is expected to play as the lone striker.

The Argentinian striker has scored 12 times in 18 Premier League appearances this term and is available at odds of 6/1 with Bet365 to score the first goal.

Possible starting lineups:

ARSENAL: Fabianski, Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Wilshere, Nasri, Van Persie.

MAN CITY: Hart, Boateng, Kolo Toure, Kompany, Kolarov, Johnson, Milner, De Jong, Barry, Yaya Toure, Tevez.
