Leeds Rhinos won a third successive Grand Final in 2009

The Rugby Super League is the top-level professional Rugby League football club competition in Europe, which firstbegan in March 1996 and saw the British rugby league season switch from winter to summer for the first time in over a century. Originally intended to be a European competition, it has been dominated largely by English teams since its inception, being entirely British for a period of its history until the 2006 season where the Catalans Dragons of Perpignan in southern France were admitted to the competition.

During the league's regular season, each team plays 27 games over 27 rounds from February to September, consisting of 13 home games, 13 away games and one game labelled a 'Magic Weekend' game at a neutral venue, which is currently the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams in the League play in the play-offs, which culminate in the Super league Grand Finall to determine the Super League Champions. Teams with the most points, best points difference and head-to-head records will progress to the play-off stages, with a chance to be crowned as Grand Final winners and champions.
